Woodrat Looking Out

This was in the Santa Cruz mountains of central California in late summer a few hours before dawn. I had set up an infrared beam device to trigger my camera and flashes whenever anything moved at the entrance of this woodrat nest. The nest is a big pile of sticks built into the hollow of a coast live oak tree a few feet above the ground. I only left the camera out for one night, but it took dozens of photos of the woodrat leaving and then returning with bunches of green live oak leaves.
