This was on a summer afternoon by the Ten Mile River north of Fort Bragg, CA. A pair of sapsuckers had pecked holes in the bark of a willow tree and were flying in every few minutes to drink the dripping sap. They would also bring in beaks full of insects caught elsewhere and dip them in sap before flying away, probably to feed their chicks. I took the photo using a telephoto lens while standing in a nearby tree with green netting wrapped around me for camouflage.
