This sandstone arch on the shore near Westport, CA is one of my favorite places to photograph at sunset. On this winter afternoon I had driven up there, climbed down the bluffs and set up my camera and tripod, but the cloud cover looked too solid to allow the sunlight through. There must have been a gap in the clouds just below the horizon though, because the sky lit up in a particularly beautiful sunset. I took the picture using a fairly slow shutter speed of 1/4th of a second as a big wave poured back down into the water after washing up the beach.
