This is a sandstone formation near Westport, CA, that I call Finger Arch because of the tall sea stack visible through the portal. At low tides the rocks stand on a sandy beach, but at high tides they are surrounded by water and the waves come through the hole. I took the photograph one winter evening when an unpromising cloudy sky turned into a spectacular burning sunset. The waves were mostly small, but one big fast one almost caught me.
