This was a warm late summer afternoon on the Mendocino coast of northern California. The sun was shining on the bay and on the bluff top where I was standing, but the open ocean and the town of Mendocino were blanketed in fog. The water had a beautiful transparent green color that it sometimes gets when there’s been no floodwater from the rivers for a long while.
