Mendocino at Sunset

I took this photo on a calm November evening from an overlook above the mouth of Big River. Most of the buildings visible here are the old store fronts along Main Street. They were mostly built in the mid and late nineteenth century when Mendocino was a thriving mill town. The industrial things like the mills and train tracks and cable systems to load the wood onto ships are all gone now, just the pretty parts remain and are protected from development by historical district zoning.
